2010 Guard the Earth Competition closes successfully [2010/06/14]

The 3rd Guard the Earth Competition--the popular online competition across the country—has attracted 24,000 participants from 305 senior and vocational high schools and 1.24 million visits to the official website according to Google Analytics. The goal of this competition is to communicate environmental issues, like climate change, environmental protection and sustainable energy, to students as well as teachers by running competitions online, which has been a popular way among teenagers; then, to create a knowledge platform to exchange ideas among students from different schools. Furthermore, in response to UNEP’s International Year of Biodiversity, the theme for the contest this year is “Biodiversity and the low-carbon lifestyle.”
At 10 a.m. on Jun 13th, the winner of the competition was announced in the final on the 43th floor of the Shin Kong Life Tower. National Taichung Girls' Senior High School topped the competition with their brilliant proposal, featuring “the green city—mitigation of the heat island effect.” They impressed the judges by providing effective methods like building vegetation walls and green projects for rivers. In the second round, they continued to earn many points with quick answers to the questions. Excellent performance made them rank the first in this year’s competition.
TISE Chairman Dr. Eugene Chien hoped all participants can inspire love of people around them for our mother earth.
