The UN Climate Change Conference took place at Copenhagen, Denmark from Dec. 7 to Dec. 18, 2009. Led by Chairman Dr. Eugene Chien, Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy, along with 10 student ambassadors, participated in the conference as one of the NGO observers.
A group of Taiwanese student ambassadors who attended United Nations Climate Change Conference could neither rectify the name of Taiwan, nor influence global climate policy for Taiwan. But they presented their determination to fight for the island to the international community. Student ambassadors in Copenhagen expressed their ideas and articulated their concern about how climate change changes Taiwan with people from around the world there.
Selected from the program, organized by Environmental Protection Administration and co-organized by TISE, 10 student ambassadors for the UN climate change summit flied to Copenhagen on Dec. 9. They presented their ideas by visiting universities and local energy facilities, attending conferences and the art parade with images of Taiwan in front of the world. Those student ambassadors were picked from excellent participants from the field of environmental engineer, financial management, electronic engineer, biology, green energy and industry in a highly publicized program which incorporated strict quality examination, tests, intensive trainings, and assessments. They showed their concern about climate change and Taiwan's future by participating in the climate change summit. The first-hand information of COP15 was reported by the ambassadors on the blog, called "Taiwanese representatives in the UN Climate Change Conference at Copenhagen" at http://blog.yam.com/tisecop15.
