2010 Taiwan and Africa Environmental Leaders Meeting

To respond to global climate change and facilitate sustainable development in African countries and Taiwan, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Executive Yuan of R.O.C. will attend “2010 Taiwan and Africa Environmental Leaders Meeting” at Grand Hyatt Taipei on Mar. 17, 2010. Leaders and senior government officials from environmental protection departments in countries which have diplomatic ties with Taiwan, including Burkina Faso, the Republic of Gambia, the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, and Kingdom of Swaziland, as well as senior officials, scholars and NGO representatives in related fields from other countries, were invited to shed light on climate change and sustainable development. At this meeting, they will not only share opinions and experiences in policy execution but also seek opportunities for cooperation with African countries on environmental protection.
The meeting will be co-hosted by EPA Minister Stephen Shu-hung Shen and MOFA Minister Chin-tien Yang, and Premier Wu Den-yih will address the opening ceremony. Moreover, Dr. Robert K. Dixon, the leader of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), will deliver a keynote speech: Africa and Climate Change: Sustainable Development Challenges and Opportunities. Next, environmental leaders will tackle topical issues concerning climate change and sustainable development. After the discussion, scholars from Taiwan and representatives from African countries will respond to issues including resources of sustainable development and adjustment to climate change, low-carbon energy technology and low-carbon market. All interested people from government, academic institutions, to industries and NGOs are welcome to register for this meeting for free!
In addition, the tour guides who will accompany African guests to visit sustainable energy facilities in Taiwan are Student Ambassadors for Environmental Protection who represented Taiwan at COP15 last year. This time, those student ambassadors will definitely present their diplomatic skills again on their native soil.
